Pre-debate tournament on April 23rd at Al Huda School

Assalamu alaikum,

Dear Prospective MYDT Participants and Coaches,

On Saturday, April 23rd at 2:00 pm, eight teams will be participating in our pre-debate tournament at Al Huda School College Park, Maryland.
All new debate coaches and debaters are strongly encouraged to attend this event to learn first hand about the format and structure of our parliamentary style debates.   Judges’s feedback at the end of the debate rounds will provide an idea about how our debate is graded and what makes a winning debate. The schedule for the event is given below.
Schedule:
1:30 pm: Dhuhr Salah
1:45 pm: Registration (Outside brother’s musallah)
2:00 pm: Round 1 (Classrooms – TBD)
3:00 pm: Round 2 ( Classrooms TBD)
4:30 pm: Closing

High School Round 1 – A third party is necessary.
High School Round 2 – Foreign Aid Does More Harm than Good

Middle School Round 1 – Violent video games should be banned
Middle School Round 2 – Constitutions should have an expiration date.

Upcoming MYDT Workshops!

The Mafiq Foundation holds workshops on debate skill development at different masaajid and Islamic Centers throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Here is an opportunity to enhance your debating skills and learn about the art of debating from experienced and skilled debaters. We have arranged a number of debate workshops in DMV area for the youth as well as for the parents who are interested in coaching an MYDT debate team.

Additionally, all prospective debaters are invited to attend the 2020 Muslim Youth debates at the upcoming  45th Annual ICNA-MAS Convention to learn the form, format, and fundamentals of parliamentary debate. Debates will be held at the Walter E Washington Convention Center, Washington DC on Saturday, 11th April 2020 ROOM #103AB

  • Enjoy lively extemporaneous debate at the 2020 ICNA-MAS Convention by top middle and high school debaters selected from the 2019 Muslim Youth Debate Tournament.  The audience will select the topic that students debate and will vote on the winning team.  Debate coaches will provide analysis.    Catch a glimpse of tomorrow’s leaders in action today!
  • 19th April, Sunday workshop at Al Huda School, College Park, MD in RM # 102 and 103 from 2:00 to 4:30 pm for the middle and high school students and for prospective coaches

  • xxxxx, Saturday workshop at ADAMS Center, 46903 Sugarland Road, Sterling, Virginia 20164 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm for students and prospective coaches.
