Pre-debate tournament on April 23rd at Al Huda School

Assalamu alaikum,

Dear Prospective MYDT Participants and Coaches,

On Saturday, April 23rd at 2:00 pm, eight teams will be participating in our pre-debate tournament at Al Huda School College Park, Maryland.
All new debate coaches and debaters are strongly encouraged to attend this event to learn first hand about the format and structure of our parliamentary style debates.   Judges’s feedback at the end of the debate rounds will provide an idea about how our debate is graded and what makes a winning debate. The schedule for the event is given below.
Schedule:
1:30 pm: Dhuhr Salah
1:45 pm: Registration (Outside brother’s musallah)
2:00 pm: Round 1 (Classrooms – TBD)
3:00 pm: Round 2 ( Classrooms TBD)
4:30 pm: Closing

Topics:
High School Round 1 – A third party is necessary.
High School Round 2 – Foreign Aid Does More Harm than Good

Middle School Round 1 – Violent video games should be banned
Middle School Round 2 – Constitutions should have an expiration date.

The Mafiq Foundation holds workshops on debate skill development at different masaajid and Islamic Centers throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

 Pre-Tournament Debates: Two pre-tournament details are planned for this season.

  • Pre-Tournament Debate at MCC (15200 New Hampshire Ave. Silver Spring, MD 20905) on Sunday, April 15th (2:30am to 4:30pm)

  • Pre-Tournament Debate at ADAMS Center (46903 Sugarland Road, Sterling, Virginia 20164) on Saturday, May 12th (2:00 pm to 5:00pm>>>>please note the time change.
